Traditional Accessory Craft
-Make original accessories with kimono fabrics-
Schedule
See teacher’s work and choose what you want to make → Learn history of antique quilt and teacher’s history → Make a chirimen works
Chirimen is a smooth, beautiful silk fabric that has been used in the making of Kimonos since the Edo Period (more than 300 years ago).
Women used to sew pieces of scrappy Chirimen cloth together to make flowers, birds, animals, dolls and toys. These small, cute works of art are known as Chirimen works. They are used both for decoration as well as for practical purposes. Our instructor began making Chirimen works many years ago for a hobby. However, as time passed her fascination with these works continued to grow and so her interest became her job. The instructor graciously invites you to her home. Why don’t you spend an afternoon in Japan at her cozy home, enjoying needlework? If you want to use Chirimen cloth to create your own souvenirs, this program is for you!
Feedback from our participants:
"Very informative, it makes you curious, nice introduction. You get the short history and you get to practice the handicraft yourself!" (Dutch Female, 30`s)

lInstead of buying a common Japanese souvenir, why not enjoy making your own traditional one? Take an afternoon to relax with some needlework. Let your feelings create your own piece of art.
