Yokohama Sightseeing Information

Yokohama makes for a very nice daytrip from Tokyo. There are many interesting places that are a direct influence of Yokohama’s being a port city. Many of the sites are within 2km of each other, with many parks. This makes a very nice walking tour for a day.

Chinatown (Chukagai)
This is one of the most famous parts of Yokohama, and it is definitely one of the liveliest. Walking along the streets you will feel as if you are in Hong Kong, with the colorful gates, lanterns, and store fronts. The smell is also very non-Japanese with the smell of Chinese food wafting in the air. Many people come here to eat the food, but beware the portions are small for the price you will pay. There are also many cute little shops all around selling Chinese goods.

Access: Take Minamira Line from Yokohama Station to Motomachi-Chukagai Station, which is the last station on the line.

Motomachi
This is a shopping street that looks like a part of Ginza that has been relocated to Yokohama. You will find many expensive brand label stores here, and many people shopping.

Access: Take Minamira Line from Yokohama Station to Motomachi-Chukagai Station, which is the last station on the line.

Yamashita Park
This is a park that runs just along the Tokyo Bay. From this park you will have a stunning view of the Bay Bridge.

Access: Take Minamira Line from Yokohama Station to Motomachi-Chukagai Station, which is the last station on the line.

Akarenga-soko (The Red Brick Warehouse)
These old warehouses are rather impressive from the outside. Inside they have been turned into event rooms, restaurants, cafes, and of course various shops.

Access: Take Minatomirai Line to Nihonodori Station. It will be about a 6min. walk from Nihonodori Station.

Landmark Tower
This tower is 70 stories high and is 296m tall. Looking up at it from the outside is quite impressive, but if you ride up to the 69th floor there is an observation deck providing spectacular views of Yokohama City.

Access: Take Minatomirai Line to Minatomirai Station.

Yamate Hills
This area has a few Western-style houses that remain from the western settlements in Yokohama. Many were destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake, but there are a few that survived. If you stroll through the hills you will see many new houses that have been built in a western-style. Although the settlement may be gone the style still remains.

Access: Take Minamira Line from Yokohama Station to Motomachi-Chukagai Station, which is the last station on the line.
