Facts on Japan

Transportation

From Narita Airport
When heading into Tokyo from the airport, there are several different ways you can choose, such as Express trains or Limousine Buses. The Narita Express goes to major stations in central Tokyo such as Tokyo, Shinjuku, and Yokohama taking only 60-80 minutes.  There is also a direct limousine bus to major hotels in Yokohama.

Tokyo Metropolitan Area Transportation
Japan is known worldwide for its transportation. Tokyo is the main tourist spot to view and try out the advancing train system.  A taxi can also be easily hailed.  For visitors to Japan JR sells discount passes, so please take advantage of them.

Subway
Tokyo also has an extensive subway system.  There is a private company (Tokyo Metro) and another 2 lines run by the city.  The base fare to ride the Tokyo Metro is \130, and \170 for the lines run by the city. Tickets are available at ticket vending machines near the entrance gates to the subway.  For the private lines you can buy a ticket for destination that you wish to go to, and then change lines along the route if you need to.

Taxis
Taxis in Japan seem to perplex many visitors to Japan.  Firstly, in Japan people drive on the left-hand side.  Like most other countries the way to hail a cab is to raise your hand up. When getting into the cab you will enter from the left side.  When entering the cab, the left-hand side door will open automatically, and therefore, is not necessary for you to open or to close the door. After exiting from the cab the door will shut automatically behind you.
