Tachikawa
A compact town separated from Tokyo
You can reach Tachikawa in 30 min. by taking the Chuo local train from Shinjuku Station. Tachikawa is right in the middle of the Tokyo Metropolitan area. Tachikawa Station is located on the Chuo Line running from Tokyo Station to Takao Station, the Oume Line runs from Tachikawa to Okutama Station, and the Nanbu Line runs from Tachikawa to Kawasaki Station. Tachikawa is very convenient for businessmen/women, because they can easily switch to other train lines. Tachikawa is not just a train station there is also the Tama monorail, which connects Tama City to the Tokyo Metropolitan area.

There are many department stores around Tachikawa Station. Many shoppers go there just for the purpose of shopping. Some department stores that are located within Tachikawa Station are Lumine and Grandu, if you take the North Exit from the station there are Isetan, Takashimaya, Marui, and From-Chubu Shopping Mall. All the department stores are within a 10 min. walk of the station, and therefore, are very convenient for shoppers. Other than department stores there is Cinema City, HMV, and Bic Camera.
The Department stores and shops from the North Exit are usually crowded on the other hand if you exit from the South Exit, go to the right, and you walk just a little ways, you will find yourself in a place that you can feel more at ease in then in other areas of Tokyo. Once you exit the Station Suwa Shrine is about a 5 min. walk away. This temple was built in 811; it was destroyed in a fire in 1994, and then rebuilt in 2001. Suwa Shrine was built on a spacious ground and is surrounded by greenery. It is very quiet and as soon as you enter the grounds you will feel at peace.

If you take the South Exit and walk about 10 min. in a southern direction in front of the Tama River you will run into Negawaryoko Path and Tachikawa Park. If you take the Tama Monorail it is one station from Tachikawa Station. Negawaryoko Path is a path that runs along the riverside. It has carp swimming in it, and bridges and benches with their own individual and interesting designs. It also has walking routes; making it a great place for local residents to come for walks.
In a space of more than 480 hectares there is a man made fog forest, this is the largest area within the capital city. Children can play in this forest; there are 9 pools, a barbeque area, and a huge lawn space, which everyone including adults, children, and families can enjoy. Between Tachikawa Station and Nishi-Tachikawa Station there is Showakinen Park. Close to the North Exit of Tachikawa Station the shopping is great. From the South Exit to the right hand side there is a more countryside feel to it, however to the left side there is a large game center, izakayas, and many entertainment facilities. It is definitely an easy place to live.
