Narita-san Shinsho-ji, Naritasankoen
When most people fly to Japan they use Narita Airport. Narita City is located near the airport in Chiba Prefecture. Upon leaving Narita Airport many people set out for Tokyo. However, Narita City has many nice places to visit too.
Narita-san Shinsho-ji Temple・・・In the Kanto region this is the 3rd oldest temple. It was opened in the year 940. The temple grounds are vast containing, a Deva Gate, a three-story pagoda, and a Buddha. For people who are very interested in history and culture this place come highly recommended.
The main temple events are in January, when people pay the first visit of the year to the temple and Gionkai in July. Besides those events, there are events happening here every month. On New Year’s Eve many Japanese people pay a visit to this shrine.
Here they sell fortunes, so how about checking what your fortune will be? There are better fortune and prosperity charms that you can buy; they also sell traffic safety, school achievement, and marriage charms.
Located behind the temple is the Narita-san-koen and Narita-san Calligraphy Museum. There is a big pond with Cherry Blossom Trees, Plum Trees, and Azaleas; it changes with every season.
From the station to Narita-Shinsho-ji Temple there is a road that is called Omotesando. There are many souvenir shops lining this street. It is definitely recommended that you take a walk down this road. There are many shops selling a variety of traditional Japanese snacks, and there are also many traditional Japanese restaurants.
Access:
By train: Take JR Line or Keisei Line to Narita Station from Narita Station it is about a 10 or 15 min. walk. You can also take a bus or taxi.
