Area Information
Kichijoji
The main part of Kichijoji is its station, which is located in Musashino City. There are many areas in Musashino City, and Kichijoji is just one of them. Originally in the Edo Period (1603-1868) Kichijoji town was built around a temple. In 1657 there was a big fire, and the people were forced to relocate; the place where they relocated to is the modern day Kichijoji. The temple was also moved to its new location in Hongo-Komagome. Kichijoji Station was built in 1899. After the war Harmonica Lane was created. Throughout the years a covered shopping area expanding both north and south from the station developed. In the station building there is Lonlon and other large-scale department stores. It has become a place for shopping and good food.
If you take the North Exit from Kichijoji Station at the entrance to Sun Road there is an Information Desk for Kichijoji. Here you can obtain detailed information about Kichijoji. You can also get a copy of a Kichijoji Map. If you have a place you would like to go, but you have lost your way, you can ask the staff and they will tell you the way; they can also help you find a particular store. This is a very convenient service. The business hours are from: 11am – 7pm.
