Area Information

Harajuku

Japan's fashion mecca for the young.

Harajuku is mainly a patchwork of boutiques and restaurants, bubbling with youthful energy.
Although its visitors are young, Harajuku itself, including the old station building, is anything but.
Harajuku's energy is palpable the moment one steps out of the train station.
Yoyogi Park is just around the corner. Here young amateur musicians, costumed and heavily made-up youth mingle with regular visitors. They will readily consent to being photographed - even with tourists who don't speak Japanese.
The road to Meiji Shrine, an historical site, is surrounded by greenery, making it a rare urban oasis with crisp, clean air.
The nearby Yoyogi National Stadium is frequently host to concerts and extensive flea markets.

The main thoroughfare that runs through Harajuku -- Takeshita Dori - is the place to see and be seen for Japan's youth.
It is bustling with stores of every kind, many of which sell inexpensive and one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories.
If you want to feel the energy of Japan's youth, you have to visit Harajuku.

Harajuku also connects to Shibuya and Omotesando, which will provide more than enough fun for a full day.
