Area Information

Gotanda

Gotanda is often referred to as a business district. This is one of the few places in Tokyo that is more crowded during the weekdays than on the weekend. If you visit Gotanda on a weekday morning you will literally run into tons of Japanese people dressed in black suits and rushing to work. However, at night the attitude changes to a much more relaxed one. As many people begin their search for night activities. On weekday nights you are more likely to encounter drunken business men/women trying to make it the station than on a weekend. In contrast the weekends in Gotanda are quiet. You can actually walk into a Starbucks and have no problem getting a seat, which says volumes.

Since Gotanda is a business area there are tons of great restaurants there for business men/women to go to for lunch and after work. Most of the restaurants are located within a 5 min. radius of the station from both the East and West Exits. Many are Japanese and Western fast-food shops, and there are also many Izakaya style restaurants. There are also many international restaurants such as Chinese, Thai, Indian, and especially Korean. Since Gotanda is known as a business area it would follow that there would be many business hotels, which are usually reasonably priced. Even though Gotanda is not a hot tourist spot it is conveniently located on the Yamanote Line, and is close to Ebisu, Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku.

How to Get There:
